How to keep your favourite programs at the top of the start menu

Click to Print This Page

The start menu has two parts the top and the bottom. The top (area above the line) is the area where Windows "pins" icons to the start menu, the bottom (area below the line) are fequently used programs. You can decide wether or not you'd like these items pinned or not. If theres a program that you use daily, and would like to have it pinned to the start menu, right-click its icon, and select pin to start menu. On the other hand, if there are icons that are pinned to the start menu for programs you dont use, you can right-click and select unpin.

You also have control over the number of program icons that will show up as frequently used. To change this number, right-click the start button, select properties, then click on customize. In that dialog box, you can choose the number of items to keep listed in the frequelty used program icon area of the start menu.
